Get cozy with this creamy hot chocolate chai recipe! A perfect blend of spiced chai and decadent chocolate, this comforting drink is easy to make and perfect for chilly days.

Chai and hot chocolate are my go-to comforts, especially when its still chilly outside. And if you’re anything like me and can never decide between the two, this hot chocolate chai is the perfect solution—warm, cozy, and the best of both worlds in every sip.
This chai recipe is a riff off / inspired by my mom’s Doodh Patti chai recipe, which is essential for a chilly day!
Ingredients & Notes

- Milk – I highly recommend whole milk for this recipe. It gives it a thicker mouthfeel.
- Black Tea—You can use your favorite black tea; I’ve recently been using Tetley Black Tea Bags and Tapal Danedar. You can also use loose-leaf tea, about one teaspoon for each tea bag.
- Chocolate—Using a chocolate bar and cocoa powder gives this chai the best consistency. I used a mix of Lindt milk dark chocolate and Hershey cocoa powder. You can even use chocolate chips if that’s all you have.
- Sugar – Adding a little sugar makes this a super indulgent drink. If using all milk chocolate, you may want to taste the drink and adjust the amount before adding extra sugar.
- Chai Masala—I kept this recipe simple, using cardamom and cinnamon which give it plenty of flavor. But feel free to use your favorite chai spices, or a chai masala blend if you have that on hand.
How to make Hot Chocolate Chai?
